About the Artist:

Carmen Goertzen is a Haida artist and native carver known for the depth and
detail of his hand engraved native jewelry and for his traditional Haida
designs. He grew up on his ancestral lands of Haida Gwaii, in British Columbia,
Canada, where he lives and creates his original Haida art and Native American
jewelry.

Carmen has been carving native Haida art for over 30 years, and it shows in
the high quality of his engraving. His customers appreciate his hand engraved
jewelry is is both comfortable and stylish, while balancing a contemporary
aesthetic with traditional design elements.

Carmen's professional art training began with the early influence of his land
and culture. At age 11, he dedicated himself to learning the traditional art
and design techniques of the Haida.

Carmen is passionate about his connection with Haida Gwaii. When he is not
carving, he can be found fishing, collecting Haida medicine, and cooking using
fresh locally harvested ingredients.
